Hello everyone 👋
Please find the eighteenth instalment of our weekly update below.
Week Ending 18/06/2021 (Friday)
We had another eventful week. I'm pleased to report that I won't be altering the delivery plan and we have agreement from our suppliers that we can still achieve dispatch by the close of the first week of July.
On Tuesday afternoon I received images (example below) of several re-coated samples. My eye was instantly drawn to the re-machined area around the logo and I was again un-happy with the finish.
Because the logo is purely an aesthetic feature, I have taken the decision to remove it altogether.
The machine shop can turn the outside diameter down (again), and we'll be left with the same excellent surface finish seen on the rest of the body.
The decision was a tough one. However, recognising the length of time it has taken to get to this stage, I am reluctant to cause further delay. Frankly, I'm not sure anything could be done to rescue the logos on this batch of mills now.
On a positive note, the machine shop had done an excellent job fixing the remainder of the surface finish issues and re-instating the radius at the top and the bottom of the mills.
Because of these reasons I have every faith that the mills without logos will look excellent and still retain the original design intent.
All parts have been returned to the machine shop. ✅
Thursday 24th June - Parts returned to be coated.
Wednesday 30th June - Parts ready for collection & assembly.
Sunday 4th July - Assembled products ready & packed for shipping on Monday.
** Of course, I will keep you posted along the way.
If you're unhappy with the design change decision, I do apologise. I have taken the decision in the interest of delivering your mills without adding further delay.
You are, of course, welcome to ask for a refund, which I will process immediately if the change is unsatisfactory for you.
I will be working behind the scenes to re-instate the logo at some point in the future. I wouldn't be able to give a firm date as to exactly when, but I have some ideas about making the process more repeatable. At this stage, they are just ideas and will need thorough testing/trials conducting in the background.
Thanks for reading. Please get in touch if you have any concerns, and I'll gladly answer any questions.
I have chosen the image below as it's a great example of how well the surface and radius have come out. But is also a good example of the logo mis-alignment, which I am unhappy with.
