Hello everyone 👋
Please find the fifteenth instalment of our weekly update below.
Week Ending 28/05/2021 (Friday)
I'll keep my update this week short and sweet. The machine shop have written a programme for their lathe and mill that will 'clean up' the entire surface of the mill body.
The mill body will be turned on the lathe from the top face to the top of the logo. The mill body will then be placed in a milling machine (upside down) and milled around the exterior profile of the bottom section - from the edge of the logo all the way around to the other side of the logo.
This will provide a perfect base to apply the paint and ensure a consistent radius.
I am led to believe the mill bodies have all been turned down on the lathe. We are now waiting for a slot on the mill to complete the second process.
The machine shop has advised a Wednesday collection, but I have assumed they'll be returned by the end of this coming week (04/06) for the purposes of my plan.
The paint workshop was saddened that I was unhappy with the result. They have been accommodating, though and have advised that they will prioritise my work once available.
In the revised plan, I have allowed two weeks for paint, but I expect they'll be ready much sooner than that. Re-applying just the exterior powder coating shouldn't be that time consuming at all.
My plan doesn't allow for any scrap. This is the timeline for making good the original castings.
The foundry cast more bodies for me last week, and I will be collecting them Monday the 7th of June, as they are now shut for a week.
I am hoping that I will be able to fulfil all orders with the good parts from the original batch. However, I won't know for certain until the final milling operation is complete.
I will keep you posted when I hear back from the machine shop.
